Dr. Abdul Ahad is from Sunamganj, Sylhet. He has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Comilla University since April 2022 (On study leave from 1st October 2022). He was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Physics, CoU, in 2019. Before joining CoU, he also worked as a lecturer in the Department of Textile Engineering of Uttara University, Bangladesh. In CoU, Ahad taught Mechanics, Heat and Thermodynamics, and Advanced Electronics and Telecommunication courses.
He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Physics from the Department of Physics, Comilla University, Bangladesh, and an M.Phil. in Physics from the Department of Physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh. He completed his PhD in the Department of Physics at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, as a fellow of the Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship Program provided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
During his PhD, he developed, for the first time, a single-substrate synthesis method for WS2 nanotubes on an insulating substrate and subsequently controlled their morphology by forming aligned arrays of nanotubes. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Nanostructure Physics Lab at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan. His research includes developing a chemical vapor transport (CVT) method to synthesize doped WS2 nanotubes and fabricating nano-devices using photolithography and lift-off processes.
Ahad received several national and international grants and scholarships, including the National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship 2018, the UGC Research Grants for 2020–21 and 2021–22 probided by Comilla Univeristy, the NIMS Graduate Research Assistantship (April 2022), Tsukuba, Japan, the Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship Program (2022) provided by the Japanese Government, and the Outstanding Researcher Award 2025 awarded by Comilla University. His research interests include 'Condensed matter physics' and 'Physical chemistry'. Essentially, he and his group synthesize the materials using solid-state reactions, spray pyrolysis, spin coating, resistance heating method, and CVD techniques and investigate the structure and physical properties of the materials using FESEM, AFM, XRD, TEM, XPS, Raman, VSM, and UV-vis spectroscopy.
